The interior of a loft space in a former east german furniture factory is organized by just two boxes to keep the character of an open wide space. The rough ceiling, partly old and painted and partly new concrete is taken as found and crossed with comfortable materials such as wood and cement tiles on the floor. (fotos: christoph rokitta)

1983 / 2013
A two and a half room apartement in a housing cooperative built in 1983 in Berlin Schöneberg is converted into a three room apartement by shifting a wall in the axes of the main structural wall and tearing down a further wall.


is a Berlin based office for architecture founded by thomas burlon in 2013. thomas burlon was trained as an architect both at TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen. He collaborated with BeL in Cologne in the field of conversion and re-programming. Since 2010 he is associate at brandlhuber+ emde, burlon in Berlin, currently researching on contextuality and mixed-use typologies such as living and working. In addition he is realising side projects in different collaborations. From 2014 to 2015 he was teaching at tu berlin as assistant at the departement of prof. donatella fioretti.
